What to wear, What to wear

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

You can wear what you want to get your pictures taken, I just thought I would jot down some of my thoughts.

There are a few traditional rules that I have heard:

  • If you wear long sleeves and long pants you will be showing less skin. Showing less skin means that there is less “competition” for attention to your face.
  • Solid colors are less distracting and less busy than patterns. Again, less clothing distraction equals more attention to the face.
  • If you are in a group, continuity is important. You can achieve continuity through similar colors, tonal values or through complimentary colors… it doesn’t matter how you do it.

All that being said, sometimes traditional is boring. Especially if you are getting a portrait by yourself I think it is important to show off some personal flare, wear your favorite outfit, make yourself look good. Clothing should help reinforce your personality, if you are a loud personality why would you wear khakis and a white long sleeve shirt?
